Persimmon Tree Road House

This residence in Potomac, Maryland distinguishes itself from the neighboring pseudo-traditional homes through its bold, contemporary design rooted in creativity and spatial intention. Departing from the region’s typical aesthetic of artificial materials and traditional facades, the homeowners prioritized a design that embraced originality and connection to the landscape. The house responds directly to spatial needs and physical relationships, with an emphasis on integrating into the irregular site rather than conforming to its surroundings. A carefully placed gallery and sculpted landforms create privacy and serenity by shielding the home from nearby lots and road noise.

Architecturally, the house is composed of dynamic, folded planes that form a hierarchy of spatial volumes, offering both privacy and openness. The structure’s geometry unfolds gradually, revealing glass walls and high ceilings that connect interior spaces with curated views of the garden. Circulation flows naturally through the home and landscape, enhanced by rain gardens, bamboo groves, and a defined path. Interior finishes are intentionally minimal, allowing the changing light, shadows, and innovative form to animate the living experience. Altogether, the home is a refined and thoughtful response to both its physical site and the client’s desire for an optimistic, individualized dwelling..
